The Importance of the Word NOTHING

Writer's picture: Robert StevensonRobert Stevenson

Recognizing that nothing is guaranteed in our lives makes each day an opportunity to learn and earn. Living with the understanding that we are not entitled to anything should hopefully push us to take the initiative in shaping our own lives. It should encourage a proactive approach to personal growth and success.

I once read … "The moment we realize that no one owes us anything is the moment we begin to build our own destiny. We are entitled to nothing except the consequences of our actions."

Here is the way I look at life:

I wake up every morning knowing I am entitled to NOTHING.

The world owes me nothing. My clients owe me NOTHING.

My associates, friends, and family owe me NOTHING.

Everything will be determined by my actions; NOTHING else.

My actions must make my today better; NOTHING counts more.

My integrity is of utmost importance; NOTHING can alter it.

My failures will teach me – NOTHING ventured, NOTHING gained.

NOTHING can substitute experience.

NOTHING will work unless I do.

Talent is NOTHING without dedication and discipline.

There is NOTHING permanent, except change.

NOTHING can stop a person with the right attitude.

NOTHING can help a person with the wrong attitude.

If you aim at NOTHING, you will hit it every time.

When nothing is sure, everything is possible.

In other words: NOTHING is impossible!

When I finally recognized that no one is coming to rescue me, and no one is obliged to make things easier for me … is when my life changed for the better. The recognition that nothing is guaranteed, and that everything must be worked for, drove me to take responsibility for all my actions and decisions.

In the simplest of terms:

If it is to be, it’s up to me.

NOTHING else matters.

If you need someone to count on,

make that someone “YOU.”

“You hit home on all fronts - service, stress, team building, dealing with change, communication and leadership. You truly got us pumped up. I thank you for a truly inspiring and rewarding experience. The best part of all, you made me a hero.”
