Robert Stevenson’s Thoughts on the Pursuit of Excellence

One Step at a Time

Your life is postponed from progressing if you can’t make up your mind where you want to go. The older I get the more I find that every day is an important day. I see so many people wasting time, floundering through life, wondering why their life isn’t going the way they want it to go. There is good news and bad news about the statement I just made. The good news is at least they have a vision of the way they want their life to go. The bad news is they haven’t figured out they are the one responsible for making that vision happen.

The renowned author William Arthur Ward once said …

“Study while others are sleeping, work while others are loafing, prepare while others are playing, and dream while others are wishing.”

A sure strategy for failure is procrastination. Quit being the person who is about to do something. Remember, the more time you take to decide to get going and do something, the less time you have; your life clock is always ticking. Don’t be the person who is always getting ready to live. Success is about changing “I wish” into “I will”.

Several years ago, a friend of mine challenged me to share my thoughts on LinkedIn. He said … “Rob, most people these days are moving so fast that they only have time to retrieve information in fast, small amounts.” He thought sharing my thoughts in the limited “LinkedIn” format would fit right in with their lifestyle and be helpful.

So, I took on the challenge and I am thrilled I did. It is amazing how things can build over time. I forced myself to write something 5 days a week and now I have over 1,000 posts and over 30,000 followers. If someone told me I had to write “over 1,000 thoughts” that would help make people better or open their minds up to new ways to approach things, I would have said, “No way”. But, when you look at it as just ONE STEP (post) at a time, you’ll be amazed how fast your efforts will mount up. Here are a few quotes that help to support my thoughts on taking life’s journey one step at a time.

“Every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” - Speaker and best-selling author - Brian Tracy

“Don’t look at how many feet are left to the top – look only at the next step. It’s that ability to focus on the precious present moment that is critical.” - Head Football Coach – Univ. of Alabama – Nick Saban

“I will persist. I will always take another step. If that is of no avail, I will take another, and yet another.” – Og Mandino

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Your life is a journey of many steps ... but, your most important step is your next step. FOCUS THERE – One Step at a Time!
