Never Let Other Opinions Determine Your Fate

When I was in my early twenties, I had the opportunity to hear Zig Ziglar speak in Atlanta, Georgia to over 20,000 people at the convention center. Many great speakers spoke that day, but the one who impressed me the most was Zig. He shared a story about his best friend, Bernie Lofchick, that I remember like it was yesterday. The story had a profound effect on my life, so I thought I would share it with you.

Consequences

Is it easier to make a decision when you are spending other people’s money? Absolutely! You have nothing at risk. Would you have made that decision if you were putting your own money at risk? Our decisions have a great deal to do with how they affect us personally.

Eliminating Bad Habits

We all have bad habits that could be ruining our careers. The key to success in business is eliminating bad habits and developing good ones. English novelist Charles Reade, I think said it best when he wrote: “Sow a thought and you reap an act; Sow an act and you reap a habit; Sow a habit and you reap a character; Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

Enthusiasm - The Electricity of Life

Emerson said, “Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm.” I see enthusiasm as the critical trait, component, and ingredient in the personality of successful people. Enthusiasm is the gas that drives your engine on your journey towards SEEKING EXCELLENCE. With enthusiasm you will forever have the chance to succeed; without it, you have failed before you ever started. Some people show it differently than others, but that doesn’t mean it is any less powerful or they are any less committed.

The Disappointment of LESS

None of us like to be disappointed, but if we are alive, then we will always be dealing with some sort of personal disappointment. Today, I want to address the business side of disappointment and ask you, “How do you deal with companies that disappoint you?” My answer is simple: I take my business somewhere else. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
